Hibernian Hall is a historic building located two blocks from the Dudley Square MBTA bus terminal that was purchased by Madison Park Development Corporation with the purpose of redeveloping it as an arts and cultural facility to promote local artists and arts-related businesses, and to serve as a premier center for cultural programs and events in Roxbury. The stately four-story, 28,000 square foot building is structurally sound and is recognized for its importance to the city. Prior to its acquisition by MPDC, it was among the most endangered buildings in the city, according to Historic Boston, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to saving historic buildings. Because of its importance in the community, the building has been nominated for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Built in 1913 by the Ancient Order of Hibernians as a center for Irish cultural, social, and charitable activities, the building featured one of the largest dance floors in Boston and was a favorite place for dances, bridal showers, receptions and fundraisers. It also served as a training site for the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) for many years.
Now fully restored, the carefully preserved building will again serve the community as Roxbury Center for the Arts at Hibernian Hall, a center for cultural activity and will also be a permanent home for the Arts, Culture and Trade Roxbury (ACT Roxbury), and its programs and initiatives. ACT Roxbury is the cultural economic development program of Madison Park Development Corporation.
The redevelopment of Hibernian Hall as an arts and cultural facility also offers an important opportunity to revitalize an important block in Dudley Square and add significantly to the renewal efforts that are currently underway. Newly restored and active storefronts will invite the community to eat at the restaurant, visit the businesses and offices, attend workshops and events and draw people to the Dudley Square Business District.
